Jim’s Weight Management Progress Update…
On Wednesday, Jim took a trip to the practice with me for his initial assessment. Vet Met carried out the initial examination and confirmed he was healthy in other ways, however he did require referral to a Nurse at the Weight Management Clinic.

Having completed my questionnaires, Jim and I then met with Abi for the initial consultation. We discussed out situation at home; multi-cat household, sharing food bowls, very different ages requiring specific nutrition, always been ad-lib eaters on a dry diet. I now realise how Jim’s weight gain has slowly occurred.
Abi then went through the measurements of Jim assisted by our Student Lotte, as you can see Jim was not phased by this at all, it was a very relaxing process for him. we have noted these down in his weight management report book which will help us log his progress.

Following the weight, body condition score and measurements, Abi could accurately advise me how much extra weight Jim was carrying. He is 900g over weight, we showed Jim what 500g of fat looks like; he wasn’t impressed!

Abi could then calculate how much is safe for Jim to loose each week, this being 50g per week, which is therefore going to take 18 weeks if he manages to stick to the diet. So hopefully by the end of April 2017 Jim will be a fitter, slimmer, more agile cat…
